Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 (February 27, 2010 Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal named the West Island. People unfamiliar with the term often think that it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal although in actual fact, there is a lot more to it. West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time within the city was brief. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa the city of Ontario. Early ambitions were to be performing, but she simply outgrew her dance partners. According to an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. As I got bigger than my male dancers, I quit. Former dancers often turn to acting, and Brugel wasn't an exception. Drama teacher in her high school was able to push her in the direction she wanted to go in. She was encouraged to audition for a part in her school's production. The teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. This resulted in being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, for the more than 20 years since, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 plays on both small and large screens drawing the most attention when she landed the character of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel, the only Canadian for the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and was only seen on occasion, was the only Canadian.
